Your body is 70% water and you use up a lot of it every day. I’m sure by now I don’t need to remind you how important it is to drink lots of water. It’s best to drink about two liters of water every day. Aside from keeping your body hydrated (of course), drinking enough water helps keep you regular, aids your body in ridding itself of toxins, prevents headaches and keeps your skin looking supple and radiant. It can also be an asset when you’re trying to lose weight: if you feel like snacking only an hour after your last meal, try drinking a big glass of water. It will still your craving. Of course you shouldn’t see water as a replacement for food, but it can help you break unhealthy snacking habits.
I personally love to drink water. This time of year in particular, I find myself downing one glass of water after another. The only problem is that I sometimes forget to drink it. But if there’s a bottle or carafe right in front of me, I’ll drink it right up, so I like to make sure that I put a big carafe of water on my desk first thing in the morning.
For those of you who think water is boring or tend to forget to drink enough: make it more interesting for yourselves. You can ‘dress up’ your water with fruit and herbs. Cut up enough to cover the bottom of a large jug or carafe, fill it with water, pulverize the fruit using a pestle or a masher if you prefer a more intense flavor and there you go! I bet you’ll drink it up, no problem!
