I travel often and all over the globe for work, to visit friends and family or to take a much needed holiday from time to time. When I’m at the airport or a train station, the smell of delicious snacks catches my nose and tries to seduce me into buying croissants or sweets. It’s hard to resist! But I feel fit and I want to keep feeling this way, even when I’m away from home. I have established four ground rules for maintaining healthy eating habits while traveling.
- Drink water, herbal teas and tomato juice.
Make sure you’re well hydrated at all times. There’s a reason you keep hearing and reading about this! Take a bottle of water with you wherever you go and bring your own teabags with you – you can ask for some hot water anywhere. When you’re on a plane, it’s good to drink tomato juice to combat motion sickness and to protect your body from cell-damaging free radicals.
- Take your pills.
I always a multivitamin supplement with me wherever I go. This is actually the only supplement I bring with me when I travel because they’re light, small and healthy.
- Bring snacks.
I always bring my own snacks, like fruit or raw, unsalted nuts, in my purse. These are perfect as a snack when you’re on your way! Nuts are filling and contain protein, minerals and fatty acids.
- Be a sleeping beauty.
Traveling (especially on long flights) can lead to hours of lost sleep due to feeling out of balance or being distracted by noise and activity around you. Bring earplugs and make sleeping your top priority during your travels so that your body will be fully rested when you arrive! Sleeping is good for your skin and your mood!
And when you arrive at your destination, try to maintain your healthy habits! Bon voyage!
