It’s so important to keep your energy level in check when you’re working out. So before I work my ass off, I make sure that I’ve eaten and hydrated properly. I like to have something light that contains complex carbohydrates, like oatmeal or a quinoa salad. That’s usually enough to keep me going for about an hour.
But sometimes I do work out for longer than an hour, at bootcamp, for example. I often just end up having so much fun that I can’t stop! And when I’m training for a longer run, I’ll be out for more than an hour then too. In these situations, I like to have something on hand to eat during my workout that stabilizes my blood sugar. Lots of people like to drink juice or smoothies because the sugars they contain are quickly absorbed by your body. But if you’re like me and have a sensitive stomach when you work out, it’s best to eat something solid. I really like energy bars for this. The only downside is that they’re often tough to eat, as most bars are quite dry. The solution? Make your own!
Whenever I train for more than an hour, I wrap up one of these homemade ‘Peanut Crunchy Powerbars’ and put it in the pocket of my running jacket.
What do you guys like to eat during a workout? Let me know in the comments below 😉 XO, Rens
