I write this having just finished a 16-day detox. It included five days of preparation, seven days of fasting and finally, four days of building up my diet again. And that’s not all! During the fasting phase I also had two colonics a day, in the morning and evening. I felt reborn after my detox!
The name of the detox program is Innerwave. The ‘inner wave’ starts off during the detox and results in people blossoming, becoming aware and helps them to create a new lifestyle. I was so excited to start!
I’m always open to trying new cleansing methods. I do a three-day juice cleanse when I’m in New York every year, but I’ve never tried it for seven days. I find fasting really hard, especially when I’m walking around a city, only allowed to drink juices and forced to ignore the smell of hotdogs and kebab. Fortunately, I’m very disciplined when it comes to nutrition. I see a detox as a moment of rest for my body, especially for my liver and intestines.
Before I started the program, I visited an ortho-molecular therapist in Amsterdam. She conducted a microscopic blood analysis, which involved her looking at my blood under a microscope. After my detoxification, I returned to her to see the changes my body made with the help of Innerwave.
During the preparatory phase, I ate six small, light meals per day, things like salads, rice cakes and fruit to prepare my body for the fasting phase. I was advised to make sure I completed this phase in full because it would make the next phase easier to sustain.
The fasting days were a real adjustment for me. I literally had to use my slow juicer all day, every day. I drank three or four 250 ml juices a day, which were made mostly of veggies. Beets, spinach, kale, carrots – you name it, I drank it! But I also threw some fruit in now and then, like pineapple, lemons, grapefruit and oranges.
In fact, I started to become a real juice expert. I tried all kinds of combos, which led to the creation of the most bizarre and delicious (and sometimes, not so delicious…) juices. Much to my surprise, I felt happy and light during these seven days and had no headaches at all. The colonics were easy to do as well!
I had to get used to the fasting, but once I understood what I would be gaining, I was completely satisfied! Innerwave Coach and founder Patrick Willems (who provided me with coaching during every day of the program) told me that people don’t always feel as good as I did during their detox programs. Everybody is different and it’s also possible that my next cleanse will be harder for me. But I thank God I had this much energy this time!
I realize that the preparatory phase was very important for me in terms of making me better able to sustain the fasting phase. And although it’s hard not to eat that slice of pizza sometimes, the body really does have to get used to ‘real’ food again, so aftercare is as crucial as the first two phases as well.
And now… the results! My skin is glowing, my blood is cleaner and I am bursting with energy. This detox really has helped me to make sure that my ‘inner wave’ keeps moving! Interested? Check out: www.innerwave.nl.
