For me, spring really begins with Easter. Every family celebrates the holiday in its own way. To me, Easter means the Easter Bunny, fun, cakes and… hunting for eggs. When I was a kid, my parents used to hide Easter eggs in between the crocuses outside. My sister and I would scour our entire garden. It was a party! After we had found all of the eggs and put them in our basket, we would poke holes in the eggshells, blow out the contents and dye them all sorts of colors. In the meantime, my parents would make a delicious breakfast… With eggs, of course!

But why are eggs associated with Easter? There are different theories on this. One says that it is because people used to fast between Carnaval and Easter. After all the festivities, people didn’t eat meat and eggs for a while. Those delicacies were saved for Easter so that they could be enjoyed even more. Another theory is that the egg is a symbol of the spring and new life. It’s a nice idea!
