Family food
Whenever our mem would head into the kitchen (my father was usually the one who did the cooking), we knew dinner would be healthy. She made the most delicious stews and casseroles that were truly nutritious. Sometimes, we would even be served things like dandelion leaves (good for the liver) and nettles (blanched in boiling water; rich in iron).
When the food was on the table, she would always tell Doutzen and I exactly how all the ingredients were good for us. This is how we became so aware of food and nutrition and the effect that they have on our health at such a young age. I’m so appreciative of this because it’s always helped me make healthy choices (without creating frustration and/or obsession) and it’s now a part of my work! My mem made this dish at Easter. In my vlog #22, I’ll tell you exactly what’s in it!
Happy day.
X, Rens
