Happy healthy new season!
When you walk around your local grocery store, you’ll find that you can buy most products all year around. Even when Holland’s cold winter climate is too much for them, I can still buy tomatoes whenever I want because they’re imported from abroad. Having the option is great, but are all tomatoes equally healthy? The healthiest way to eat your favorite veggies or any other product for that matter is to buy products that are produced in your own country… Preferably those that are in season! Here are some reasons why:
- Your taste buds will appreciate it!
Fresh and local products are the most flavorful, crunchy, delicious smelling, juiciest and colorful options.
- The produce is ripe and developed.
Seasonal, fresh produce is only harvested when it’s perfect! Which is what we deserve, right? 😉
- The pricing is good!
We are all familiar with the principle of supply and demand, so when there’s a lot of a certain veggie available – like kale in winter – prices will drop because foods are much cheaper for farmers to produce.
- It’s environmentally friendly.
Seasonal vegetables are better equipped to grow without chemicals and they haven’t traveled thousands of miles by plane, truck or boat to be on your plate.
- It improves your awareness.
By looking for foods that are in season, you’re will automatically be more aware of what you eat every day.
- It contributes to a beautiful body.
Building a lifestyle and diet around seasonal meals will assist your body’s natural recovery process. It’s not a coincidence these products grow when they do!
Eat with the seasons and you’ll have variety in your diet the whole year around.
