New Year’s Resolutions?
‘Rens, what are your New Year’s resolutions?’ Just like you, I get this question every year. I have big plans for 2016, but I’m not focusing on them too much, as I’ve learned that ‘life doesn’t care about your plans.’ Between the ages of seven and 26, I kept a diary. I always took the time to write down my feelings and insights. I also wrote down my goals and specified a date before which time I wanted to accomplish them. Two years ago, when I sat down and read through everything, I realized, much to my surprise, that almost all of my dreams had come true – just not necessarily in the timeframe that I’d set out. Achieving some of my goals took years. But there were also goals that I achieved more quickly than anticipated. Say whaaat?
So I’ve really tried to let go of the idea of ‘time’. I still like to and profit from taking stock of what I’ve achieved and what I want to work toward, but I’ve discovered that if you really want something, it will likely materialize, but in its own time. Create your life now, make your plans, but don’t focus too much on them and most of all, don’t spend your time waiting…
This is what I’ve been doing for the past two years. It’s been hectic, but so much fun, to be sure! My life has been turned upside down by the success of my blog and the books – I have only just been able to keep up. At first, I was doing everything myself, but that became too much very quickly. I was flooded with emails so I hired an assistant, which helped enormously. I also received so many requests to tell my story that I even had to work with an agency. My practice was so successful that I asked a dietician to come and help me out. In short, it was a madhouse! I had no idea how to run a small business, haha (I’m not really a businesswoman at heart). Lots of people think that it’s been easy for me because, well ‘Rens has a network’. But allow me to disappoint you… Behind the scenes, I worked extremely hard to achieve what I have and am still working 24/7 to keep everything going. Having just been in Australia, I had a bit more time to breathe and draw some inspiration. But now that I’ve returned to Amsterdam and New York, it’s back to work!
What to expect
I’ve put my practice on hold for the moment and will spend the next bit of time focusing on the quality of my business. I haven’t been able to invest as much energy as I would have liked in the website, but that’s about to change! I also want to take the ‘next step’ by setting up new projects and listening closely to you. Because that’s what it’s all about really, creating something that I like that you need. This all means that I’ll need to grow my team and find a bigger workspace, which in turn means I’ll be busier than ever. But, guess what! I love it!
Of course I’m also going to keep making great new cooking videos for you on my Powerfood Channel. And I’ll still be cooking up a storm, as book three is definitely on my to-do list! When? That’s still uncertain because, again, life doesn’t adhere to a schedule. In any case, I’m not waiting to achieve my goals because I know that can take years. I’m going to keep living, accomplishing, enjoying and thinking positive.
Happy New Year #Powerfoodies! (I can still wish you that, right? ;))
Love from, Rens
