New Year’s Resolutions!
At this time of year, I like to turn inward a bit more to recharge, celebrate moments, bring things to a close and slowly but surely let new dreams for the coming year take shape. It’s also an excellent time to reflect on the year gone by because so much has happened!
Last year, in January, I came back from Australia and jumped directly into writing On the Go, which came out in June. And the English-language version of PowerFood also came out this year. Oh my, was I ever happy! I also started working with the World Food Programme to bring attention to the situation refugees face. I am so happy to be able to make a contribution; I realize that there is more going on in the world than just PowerFood. The videos are available here.
In the meantime, I was kept busy by the renovation of and the moving into my dream office and dream kitchen. I share the space with Kitchen & Bees (a new enterprise… more on this later) and the Rens Kroes team, which grew very recently (welcome Marieke!). As some of you know, last year I took the huge step of closing my food coaching practice that I had been running for two and a half years. Things got very boring all alone. This year I had the time to think about what I want to achieve as a person and as an entrepreneur. The whole clay and ‘Allerhande’ situation got me thinking. It really is bizarre that the media has the capacity to bring a person down and blow things completely out of proportion. In this case, journalists didn’t do their research properly and ‘Allerhande’ distanced themselves from me in spite of the fact that they knew that the inaccurate story in question wasn’t written by me (shame on you!). At that point, I thought to myself, do I even want this? Do I want to continue my efforts to inspire people if it means constantly stirring up a hornet’s nest? But what I realized is, is that it’s all part of the job.
What did I learn from all this? That I shouldn’t sweat the small stuff, that I should focus on the positive and enjoy myself more. That word, ‘enjoy’, is going to be my key word for 2017! I know that I can work as hard as I want, but if I’m not enjoying myself, I will continue to run into obstacles. I’ve also become increasingly aware that my life doesn’t revolve entirely around food and nutrition. So in addition to PowerFood, I’m also going to focus on other aspects of my lifestyle, including exercise and relaxation… So stay tuned!
And I make the resolution to blog more often every year and nothing really comes of it. But this year (yes, really!), I am going to go for it. I’m even planning to vlog! Can you picture it? Early in the year, I’ll be investing in a vlog camera and then voila! I’ll also keep on creating lots of new recipes. What else I’ll be up to, I’ll have to wait and see… You can make all the plans you want, but as they say, ‘life doesn’t care about your plans’.
My dear Powerfoodies, I wish you a healthy, happy, successful and lucky 2017 that is full of love! Thank you for all your support and positivity. Let’s keep moving forward!
Love you all!
