Who runs the world? Girls!
Okay, here I go! After having run the Dam tot Damloop once a while back, it’s time for a new challenge. I’m going to run a 10k during the We Run Amsterdam event on the 16th of May. Every year, Nike manages to get more than 20 000 women worldwide to work out together and it’s so much fun. But… Wait, what? The run is in less than two months! I’ve got to be completely fit and ready to go by then in order to run like the wind… Oh my, can I do it? My trainer Johnny Fernand thinks so…
I haven’t run that much since the Dam tot Damloop, but I do work out a lot. I always have, actually. As a kid I did it all: skating, basketball, tennis, sailing, street dance, gymnastics, you name it… But running is a different story. Back in the day, I used to have to do dry-land training for skating in the summer, which meant lots of running and I have to say, I always dreaded it a bit. Now I do high intensity strength and plyometric training three times a week. It’s a pretty good workout, but I’m not going to be able to log a top time on the 10k doing that alone (which is, of course, my goal during We Run Amsterdam). So, it’s time to get to work!
First thing’s first… A great outfit! The right gear makes running more comfortable and a lot more fun, of course. The Nike Store took my cup measurements and helped me find the best top to meet my needs. They also filmed me running so that they could analyze my gait in order to help me find the perfect shoes. It’s a great service that they offer to everyone!
Clothes: check! Shoes: check! To get the ball rolling, I ran one and a half loops around the Vondelpark this week and I have to say, I’m starting to get excited! In the meantime, I’m keeping blog for you during my training to detail my progress and provide you with some handy tips. Let’s do this!
