Summer workouts
Summer time and the livin’ is easy… Time to enjoy the sun, see your friends, experience the long, sultry evenings and go on adventures. So amazing! It’s just that tropical temperatures and beach vacations can make it a bit more challenging to keep up your workouts. Since it would be such a shame to let all the hard work we put in over the past year go to waste, here are six tips for staying fit this summer.
1. Dive in
Swimming is great for your whole body. In the water, less stress is put on your joints and you use almost all of your muscles at once. Is there a pool where you’re headed on vacation? Great! Try to swim 50 lengths every morning and you’ll feel fit for the rest of the day. And as a bonus, it’s a great way to cool off.
2. Run, Forest!
We love a good run, even in the heat of summer. But, we do shake things up a bit, mostly in terms of locale. The forest is a great place to run when it’s warm as the trees provide much-needed cover, not to mention how great they smell! If it’s really going to get warm during the day, it’s best if you go for your run in the early morning or later in the evening, as the sun is setting and things start to cool off a bit.
3. Bring your friends
Working out together is so much easier and more fun. Seeing each other sweat helps with motivation too. Meet your friends for a HIIT session or make a deal to go start going to the gym twice a week instead of once. Celebrate your athletic performance with a virgin Mojito on the patio.
4. Yoga
If the temperature really gets up there, you likely won’t feel much like sweating it out in a full studio at the gym, but what about yoga? You can work at your own pace and level and it helps you feel more relaxed. Maybe there’s an outdoor class nearby? Or even better, grab your girlfriends and have a group yoga practice in the park. Namasté!
5. Bike ride
Cycling is great for your legs. Instead of the daily bike commute to work, do something different this summer. Plan a bike trip through nature with your sweetie or your friends. Don’t forget to bring a big picnic basket full of healthy bites: vegetarian salads (this one, for example) and refreshing juices (yum and yum). Enjoy nature!
6. Chill!
Whether you go for a hardcore workout or a long run, being active is fantastic for your body and mind. Just keep in mind that you need to tone it down a bit in the summer. And whatever you do, don’t feel guilty.Not working out for a few days isn’t a big deal. As long as you make sure you keep moving, see lots of your friends and have fun!
