This is it!
I’ve got myself a new guru! Her name is Wilhelmina Vingerhoets and she was the hostess and yoga teacher at the yoga retreat I went on in Mallorca, Spain this past week. It was amazing! I practiced yoga every morning with nine others; I hiked through the amazing natural surroundings of Mallorca and meditated at sundown. Throughout the day we had the opportunity to do workshops (like the one by Be Bio) and enjoy so much delicious, healthy food. It’s basically heaven on earth!
The first few days are all about letting go, something that isn’t particularly easy for someone who runs her own business and is used to planning everything and juggling ten different things that need to be done at the same time. My mind was racing with thoughts of the many e-mails that needed replying to, the nutritional plans that needed to be sent out and that one very important meeting I have planned for next week. Wilhelmina taught me to focus on the here and now. It’s all quite logical actually: the past’s in the past and the future is still a mystery so all we’ve got right now is the here and now. Wow! What a soothing thought! Those 125 e-mails and the stress of awaiting the appointment just evaporated from my mind into thin air.
Over the next few days, I learned about getting rid of emotional blockages. You actually rid your body of negative thoughts and you get to see and trust your true self. You’ll find answers to questions like: ‘who am I?’; ‘what’s my inner strength?’; but also: ‘who’s the person I want to wake up to every morning?’ The last question shouldn’t be too hard, I thought. I want to wake up to a confident, ambitious, trustworthy and happy man. Who doesn’t, right? Well, wrong! The answer to that question should be about YOU! Ha-ha! You have to aim to achieve those qualities in yourself. How funny and informative!
During the last couple of days of the retreat, I found my inner strength back. It seems I had lost a bit of confidence in myself before I came to Mallorca. Now I’m refocused and back behind my laptop. I’m back answering my e-mails – the number of which had doubled, by the way, by the time I got home, haha – sending out nutritional plans and preparing for important meetings! But this now I’m doing it with newfound peace, quiet, energy and strength.
So it’s safe to say, this is it. A yoga retreat is THE ultimate way to unwind for a week if you want to clear your head, relax and enjoy healthy foods, a beautiful environment and lovely weather. The date of the next retreat has yet to be determined, but just keep a close eye on: www.iti-yoga.com.
