Home remedy: tea for coughs, colds and flu
As a kid, I used to pour over the book ‘Lexicon of Healing Herbs’ [Lexicon der geneeskruiden] by Mellie Uyldert. In the book, the author describes deficiencies that can arise in the body and explains how plants and herbs can be remedies. How amazing is it that there is so much that just grows in our midst that we can use to help combat ailments like colds, warts and hay fever!
About a month ago, I came down with a sore throat. I was coughing a lot, so I decided to make some thyme tea. Thyme isn’t just a tasty addition to sauces, soups and marinades… It also helps fight the symptoms of (head) colds and issues with the respiratory system that cause mucous to build up, according to Uyldert. So, is your throat feeling sore? Find yourself coughing? This tea can help! Enjoy!

Supplies
Sieve
Ingredients
a thumb-length of ginger
1-2 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
juice of ½ lemon + a slice of lemon (optional)
1 tsp honey
Slice the ginger thinly or grate it coarsely. Add the thyme leaves and ginger to a tea pot, pour in hot (but not boiling) water and allow to steep for at least 10 minutes. Pour the tea in to a glass or mug (using the sieve) and add the lemon juice and honey. Stir and enjoy!
