The way to the heart…

…the stomach. I love Valentine’s Day! It feels so good to spend some shamelessly gooey and romantic time with your true love. So why only celebrate once a year? In my house, it’s been Valentine’s Day for a couple of weeks now. From dusk till dawn, I’ve been in my kitchen trying out recipes for my cookbook and my biggest supporter of all has been my boyfriend. He has been testing all of my baking and brews and with love and affection – and somehow we end up having a romantic dinner every night, haha.
Don’t get crazy now, you don’t have to whip up a five-course meal for your love every single day, but spoiling each other from time to time with a truly loving meal is never a bad idea! Since it’s Valentine’s weekend: how about this aphrodisiac (yes, they really do work…): truffles!

The way to the heart is through the stomach after all. True that! Let’s get it started: hit the kitchen and you’ll have a sexy night, guaranteed.

Love truffles Rens Kroes

Love Truffles 

Ingredients
for the filling 

  • 150 grams mixed nuts
  • 200 grams peanuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons maca powder
  • A pinch of salt

for the chocolate coating

  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 100 grams cacao butter

Mix the filling ingredients in your blender, until soft and smooth. Transfer to a bowl and, using your hands, make little balls (or hearts, if you can!) out of the filling. Make the chocolate coating by melting the cacao butter and combining it with the cacao powder and the syrup in a little saucepan. The liquid shouldn’t be too thin! Dip the truffles in the coating one by one, and let them cool off in your fridge. If you’d like, you can dip them twice if you want a thicker layer of yummy chocolate.
